Veganism and plant-based living has continued to grow like never before, with companies such as Beyond Meat and the Impossible Burger hitting the mainstream market, and documentaries such as The Game Changers quickly influencing people towards a plant-based diet.
We’ve highlighted just a few of the influential people who have switched to plant-based living within the past year:
1. Simon Cowell
In 2019 Simon Cowell went plant-based for health reasons, and at the age of 60 he’s looking better than ever after losing 20 pounds since switching diets. We hope he continues to promote the lifestyle in 2020 as he can inspire a lot of people with the new season of America’s Got Talent!
Simon said: “I met this doctor in LA and he told me my diet was appalling and I had to cut out fatty foods and certain drinks. I could see the difference.” We can too, Simon!
2. Taraji P Henson
Taraji P Henson is an actress and author who went plant-based in 2019 for health reasons after a doctor said that she needed to change her lifestyle to avoid stomach cancer. She has also taken up yoga and hiking since changing to a plant-based diet.
“It took a doctor in Macon, Georgia, to say, ‘If you don’t change what you’re doing, you’re going to get stomach cancer,’” she said. “I said, ‘Say no more.’ So I switched everything up out of necessity. I want to live. Thank God, because I feel so much better.”
The 48-year-old star explained that she had followed a plant-based diet for months, adding that even her fiancé, former NFL player, and gym owner Kelvin Hayden, enjoys the “vegan treats” she cooks.
3. Andre Patton
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Andre Patton also went vegan in 2019. During an interview he said he was inspired to make the switch after watching videos sent by his friends, and has since said that the new diet has positively impacted both his health and energy levels during training. We hope that more athletes take up a plant-based diet in 2020 and realise the many benefits of the lifestyle.
He said “What the meat industry is actually doing to the meat. I feel like if you actually watch those videos and see what actually goes on with the meat packaging and how they deal with their meat, then like, it will kind of make you sick as well,” and later when on to say “To be honest if I’m around meat — like meat, chicken, beef — it smells. It just smells so bad.”
The switch has had a positive impact on his health, especially his energy levels. “It definitely makes my body feel good coming out here and practicing. I feel the difference, especially in the mornings. Morning time I wake up, I got a lot of energy as soon as I wake up,” he said.
Congratulations to these three celebrities for improving their health and the planet’s!
