The Plant-Based Network Advisory Committee
To ensure that we have expert guidance on the plant-based lifestyle and the type of shows that will help us grow the plant-based movement, we have set up an Advisory Committee comprised of plant-based leaders and subject matter experts across multiple disciplines and knowledge areas.

When DJ Cavem coined the term eco-hip hop in 2007, he didn't know it would sprout into a global movement. His mission to rap about climate change, food justice and plantbased foods spread far beyond his Denver hometown. Having performed at the Obama White House and been featured in Oprah Magazine and on the Rachael Ray Show, Dr. Ietef "DJ Cavem" Vita became known as more than just a rapper -- but an activist, educator and vegan chef. Now, several years after the release of The Produce Section, his award-winning album that fused hip hop with lessons on eco-friendliness, Cavem has shifted his focus to new material. "I want people to understand that one of the best ways to make an impact on the environment is being more conscious of what we eat and understanding that our everyday food choices impact the environment in a positive or negative way."
From an early age Cavem has had a deep connection to environmental activism and food justice. Raised in Denver's Five Points district, often referred to as the Harlem of the West, his interest for gardening and hip hop helped him resist the snares of gang lifestyle. Becoming vegan at age 14, he said he felt a calling to speak about these issues in his songs, "especially since most of the neighborhoods considered food deserts were people of color." His 2007 debut single "Wheatgrass" with rapper Stic.Man of Dead
Prez hit top ten on the charts in Spain and introduced him to the public as an OG (Organic Gardener). It led to his 2010 debut album The Teacher's Lounge, followed by 2012's The Produce Section, which featured collaborations with Speech from Arrested Development, Drummi Zeb from The Wailers, and Sa-Roc. Part album, part curriculum, The Produce Section offered lessons on organic gardening, plant-based recipes and alternate uses of energy.
DJ Cavem has traveled the world as both a performing artist and an educator. He's shared the stage with Nick Jonas, Public Enemy, 2 Chains, Questlove, Wyclef Jean, among others. Offstage he's involved with numerous organizations and projects dedicated to promoting wellness, eating healthy and environmental awareness. With his wife and collaborator Arasia "Alkemia" Earth, the pair inspire and educate around the world including communities in countries such as Azerbaijan through workshops and speaking engagements. They formed a non-profit organization called the Vita Earth Foundation, which hosts health and wellness summer camps, Culinary Concerts, and their Recipes for Resistance workshops, which focuses on culinary climate action.
Alkemia Earth is a holistic health and wellness coach, master subtle energy practitioner, and all-around health game changer. She has practised and preached a plant-based vegan lifestyle for a decade, and advocated mind-body wellness for nearly twice as long. An artist of life, she’s always questioned how we live ours, and whether there’s a better way. As a teen, Alkemia was conscious and critical of the ingredients in her food. She studied the damage chemical additives and preservatives we commonly consume can cause to the body and mind and, at the same time, she expanded her understanding of natural plant-based foods through self-study of cell, plant, and mineral biology.
Since developing The Ways of Alkemia and refining her “Damn Near Raw” method, Alkemia has helped countless people awaken to their true nature through yoga, mindfulness, energy medicine and a plant-based, high-vibrational lifestyle. Friends, family, and clients who have followed her teachings have overcome diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, depression, anxiety, acne, inflammation, candida, food addictions, high cholesterol, digestion issues, and even tumors. Followers of the “Damn Near Raw” method heal their bodies naturally, experience increased energy, and see clearer, more radiant skin.
Alkemia is a Certified Usui Reiki master (an ancient Japanese healing system based on chi and the “laying of the hands”), Certified Spiritual Alchemist, and Holistic Health and Wellness Coach. She is also a yogi, organic gardener, and raw vegan chef. She was private chef and energy practitioner for NBA all-star Wilson Chandler for a season, and was invited to present at the White House during the Obama administration along with celebrity chefs Gail Simmons, Sunny Anderson, Michael Simon, and Bobby Flay.
Alkemia has traveled across the globe performing “Culinary Concerts”, live Eco-Hip-Hop shows packed with holistic health and organic plant-based cooking education, with her husband, DJ Cavem. Her work has been featured in prominent media outlets including the Business Insider, Denver Post, NBC News, and TEDx Manhattan.

Dr. Joel Kahn
At his core, Dr. Joel Kahn believes that plant-based nutrition is the most powerful source of preventative medicine on the planet. Having practiced traditional cardiology since 1983, it was only after his own commitment to a plant based vegan diet that he truly began to delve into the realm of non-traditional diagnostic tools, prevention tactics and nutrition-based recovery protocols. These ideologies led him to change his approach and focus on being a holistic cardiologist. He passionately lectures throughout the country about the health benefits of a plant-based anti-aging diet inspiring a new generation of thought leaders to think scientifically and critically about the body’s ability to heal itself through proper nutrition.
One of the world’s top cardiologists, Dr. Joel Kahn has treated thousands of acute heart attacks during his career. He’d like all that to stop. He’d like to prevent ALL future heart attacks by breaking through to the public to educate and inspire a new holistic lifestyle. Now is the time to focus on educating the public to eat clean, sweat clean and apply cutting edge science to their lifestyle.

A Gen X-er, Dawn was born in Yonkers, New York and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. Earning her B.A. in Political Science from Virginia State University, Dawn spent more than a decade in municipal government management & administration before stepping fulltime in her culinary & wellness brand.
Dawn’s culinary passions were stoked early on with her training beginning at the tender age of 8. From The French Chef and The Frugal Gourmet to Justin Williams, Dawn was mesmerized by the artistry, process and presentation of food. She worked out the PBS weekly show recipes in real-time with her unwitting chef-friends by lugging her black & white TV set down two flights of stairs and onto the kitchen counter where she utilized her hodge-podge of substitute ingredients sourced from her cabinets & fridge to make resemble what she saw. However, Dawn’s most impactful culinary influence revealed what the love, simplicity and personal nature of cooking looked and felt like and that was through her Great Aunt Willie Mae Boyd. From unearthing potatoes and washing greens to picking tomatoes and spreading flour across a modest folding kitchen table, Dawn learned early how to impart that soulful something into every meal by watching & occasionally getting to help her Aunt at 4:30am Sunday mornings to create veritable feasts primarily sourced right from the backyard.
With years of restaurant & small private catering events under her belt, Dawn’s path led her easily to the life of a self-taught culinarian in early 2007. Armed with a solid plan and a thriving business model, Dawn was confident that she was providing the most health-promoting, organic, grass-fed & free-range food to family and clients alike. However, after a series of family health scares and years spent watching loved ones die from preventable chronic diseases, she knew it was time to more closely examine the relationship between the foods she served, health and nutrition. After completing eCornell’s Whole Plant Based Certification Program, Dawn's philosophy about food and nutrition changed and that change was the catalyst for Dawn’s company, Herban-Eats, becoming a 100% vegan, whole-food, plant-based product and services brand in late ‘16.
In keeping with the company mission, “radicalize wellness with food,” Dawn provides a myriad of products and services through her company as well as staying up to date on the science with ongoing education that focus on the prevention, treatment and reversal of chronic disease through plant-based nutrition. Dawn is an Author of a healthy vegan guide & cookbook “Flava My Plate: Your Tasty Vegan Guide to Health-Wealth,” (available on Amazon) and has a plant-based podcast titled Herban-Eats Speaks (available on Apple Music, Spotify and Google Play) and is an ardent advocate for health-wealth advocacy.
From tv & social media-based cooking show appearances, cooking classes and demos to podcasting, coaching, writing, public speaking and vegucation 101 presentations, Dawn works to raise awareness about the direct correlation between chronic disease and diet; with a targeted focus on reaching people in communities disproportionately impacted by their negative effects. Dawn also highlights the affordability, ease and flavor-rich benefits of a well-balanced, plant-based lifestyle for all.
